Wasagaming, Manitoba, April 1st, 2010 — The Honourable Jim Prentice, Canada’s Environment Minister and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, today announced that Riding Mountain National Park has completed the first stage of remediation of a contaminated site at the maintenance yard of the picturesque Clear Lake Golf Course. In addition to reducing potential risks to human health and restoring the environmental quality of the area, this work prevents the offsite movement of contaminants and will ensure the continued protection of Clear Lake and the groundwater supply in the area. Manitoba and Saskatchewan residents most willing to spend green to be green: provinces most likely in Canada to pay more for an environmentally friendly home

- 85% of home owners in Manitoba and Saskatchewan are willing to pay more for a home with environmentally friendly features – more than any other region in Canada
- 24% of home owners in the provinces have done or plan to do a green home renovation
TORONTO, March 30 /CNW/ – More than in any other region, people in Manitoba and Saskatchewan see the value in an environmentally friendly home with 85% of home owners there willing to pay more for a house that includes environmentally friendly features (compared to 73% nationally), according to the TD Canada Trust Green Home Poll. In fact, 11% of people in the region say they would pay 20% more, or that environmentally friendly features are so critical to their choice that there is no limit to how much more they will pay for them. New Beverage Industry Group to Boost Manitoba’s Recycling
Thursday, March 25th, 2010WINNIPEG, March 25 /CNW/ – A new voluntary not-for-profit industry association is gearing up to expand Manitoba’s recycling program. Soft drink, energy drink, juice, milk and bottled water makers have formed the Canadian Beverage Container Recycling Association (CBCRA) to expand recycling options and increase recycling rates in Manitoba.
“The beverage industry is stepping up to the plate,” said Ken Friesen, Executive Director of the CBCRA. “The CBCRA is preparing to help the Manitoba government meet its target of 75% recycling for beverage containers. We know this target cannot be achieved without the concerted effort of industry, or without the support and participation of the public and government.” (more…)
93% of Manitoba and Saskatchewan residents are concerned about fraud

TORONTO, Feb. 25 /CNW/ – Nine out of 10 people in Manitoba and Saskatchewan agree on one thing – they are concerned about fraud. This is according to the TD Canada Trust Fraud Prevention Poll, which showed that Manitoba and Saskatchewan residents have the highest level of concern in Canada about being victims of fraud. They are also the most likely to shield their PIN at ABMs (73% vs 62% nationally), speak to their bank about reducing their withdrawal limit (17% vs 12% nationally) and change their PIN every couple of months (17% vs 6% nationally).
